Ruslan hospital in Mataram on the Indonesian island of Lombok on August 6, 2018, the morning after a 6.9 magnitude stuck the area. The quake also caused damage to Bali almost 100 miles away.

"Data collection continues and (rescue) efforts are still ongoing", Nugroho told a news conference, adding that there were no foreigners among the victims so far. Officials are still searching for missing people among the rubble and estimate that the number of dead and injured persons will climb.

Australian Home Affairs Minister Peter Dutton, in Lombok for a regional security meeting, said he and his delegation were eating dinner in their hotel's 12th floor restaurant when the quake struck, plunging the building into darkness and throwing people to the floor.

"Walls cracked, it was quite impossible to stand up", he said. "Heard screams", he wrote.

Indonesia's Sunday 6.4-magnitude natural disaster on the island of Lombok has killed at least 14 people and injured more than 160 others.

Power and communications were severed in some areas, with landslides and a collapsed bridge blocking access to areas around the epicentre in the north.

The 6.9 magnitude quake forced thousands of Lombok residents and tourists run for their life outdoors and they had to spent the night outside as strong aftershocks including one of 5.3 magnitude continued to rattle the island.

Also, hundreds of people have been wounded by Sunday's quake, disaster management officials said, BBC reported.

Victims in blood and bandaged numbering in hundreds were treated outside damaged hospitals in the main city of Mataram and other hard-hit parts of the island. 'Some of them are hurt and are in shock, ' I Nyoman Sidakarya told a local television station.

All New Zealanders in Lombok are advised to register their details on, follow any instructions issued by the local authorities and let their family in New Zealand know they are okay, MFAT said.

The tourists have been moved from the quake-affected islands and rescue operations are underway.

Following a 7.0-magnitude quake that struck Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara, on Sunday evening, national flag carrier Garuda Indonesia has announced a 50 percent discount on its cargo services for aid supplies to the island.

A tweet from the head of the Disaster Mitigation Agency in Indonesia said 1,000 foreign tourists were being evacuated from the islands.

The magnitude 7.0 quake centered on northern Lombok struck early Sunday evening and was also felt strongly in neighboring Bali, where it damaged buildings.

Video showed screaming people running in panic from houses in a Bali neighborhood and vehicles rocking.

Other witnesses said the initial quake grew in intensity over several seconds, rattling windows and doors, and there were many aftershocks.
