This new PS4 is a translucent blast from the past

Each system features a commemorative copper plate on the front, and etched on it is the limited edition serial number. The company announced it to celebrate 500 million sales of PlayStation consoles since the brand's inception in 1994.

Anybody planning to grab one of the 500 Million PS4 Pros?

Sony is only producing 50,000 of these limited edition consoles for distribution worldwide.

Inside is a 2TB hard drive and it will be made available for $499.99/$639.99 CAD/€499.

In celebration of selling 500 million PlayStations, PS2s, PS3s, and PS4s over the years, Sony is releasing a 500 Million Limited Edition PS4 Pro. The system also comes a translucent 500 Million Edition DualShock controller. Serial number 09995, for example, commemorates the United States launch date of the original PlayStation; 01115 commemorates the United States launch date of PlayStation 4; and 01013 commemorates the United States launch date of PlayStation VR.

The Limited Edition 500 Million PS4 pro will be available on retailer websites on August 24, 2018, for $499.99 Dollars / $639.99 CAD, with the DualShock 4 and Gold Wireless Headset becoming available in early September.

Every time a special edition console is released I do wonder who buys them, I can't see the point of them myself. The European PlayStation Blog mentions there will be opportunities in win one in that region, but does not offer additional details. The DualShock 4 controller ($64.99) and the Gold Wireless Headset ($99.99) will be available later, sometime in early September from select retailers in the United States and Canada.
