Shared locations on Google Maps now include battery life

Google's Maps Timeline is often a real eye-opener for how much the company knows about your travel habits, but with this tool, it's also a great way to keep everyone safe.

The feature was first noticed by Android Police during research into Google Maps' 9.71 software beta.

Google Maps now notes your phone's battery life when you share your location. The feature was earlier shifted to the Google+ platform, however, previous year it made its comeback to the Maps application. Yes, we are talking about the fact that you can now see the other person's phone battery life as well as track their whereabouts.

When you share your location with someone in the Google Maps app, it will show up on your friend's map, and they can then use that information to get directions to exactly where you're located. Of course, sharing your location with a friend remains voluntary in the Android application. Instead, it showed a range of what someone's battery was between - "Brian's battery level is between 50 percent and 75 percent and is charging". You'll now be able to reference Google Maps to ease the situation a little bit.

We tested out the battery percentage on both ends and it is fairly accurate. As noted by Mashable this week, battery updates could even prove useful for people who have lost their devices.

The other India-specific feature being tested now for the Google Maps is the real-time bus transit information tool.

Having as much helpful information as possible continues to be a considered goal for the teams working on Google Maps, as indicative of the app's latest new addition.
