Ryanair pilots to stage further strike

100 pilots are also set to go on strike tomorrow.

Ryanair pilots in Germany overwhelmingly vote to strike and give the airline until August 6 to make a better offer after talks on a collective labour agreement ended without the progress the Vereinigung Cockpit pilot union sought.

Norwegian is seeking to hire captains and first officers certified to fly Boeing 737 aircraft and will nearly double the number of flight crews at its Dublin base, it said on Friday.

Forsa should explain why, "when Ryanair has agreed nine of their 11 requirements, they call strikes rather than negotiate", the statement said.

Over 1,000 Ryanair flights were cancelled in July due to strikes and other factors, affecting almost 200,000 customers, said Ryanair.

As a result, Ryanair has cancelled 104 flights to and from Belgium on Friday, 22 to and from Sweden and 20 flights from Ireland.

"Ever since Ryanair in December 2017 announced that it will be recognising unions for pilots all over Europe, the developments have been similar everywhere".

"This fifth strike notice by Forsa is irresponsible, unwarranted and is disrupting customers and (a way of damaging) Ryanair's business", Ryanair's chief marketing officer Kenny Jacobs said in a statement.

On Friday, around a quarter of Ryanair's 350 pilots based in Ireland took part in a fourth one-day strike.

It will be the fifth strike by pilots since July 12. The company has cancelled 20 flights and altered the travel plans of 3 thousand five hundred passengers.

Now, the Spanish pilots' union - which represents around 500 of the 800 Ryanair pilots in Spain - says it is going to sue the airline after a year of failed talks.

Founded 33 years ago in Dublin, the airline boasts lower costs per passenger than its competitors.

A Ryanair Boeing 737-800 airplane takes off from the airport in Palma de Mallorca, Spain, July 29, 2018. The airline had also until recently refused to recognize unions, but is gradually doing so as pressure increases.

"We have examples such as Norwegian or easyJet, companies that hire their pilots based in Spain under the legislation of the country".
