Jurgen Klopp defends Liverpool transfer policy after spending £177m

Liverpool defender Andy Robertson is backing new signing Alisson to showcase his skills not only as a goalkeeper but as a playmaker at Anfield.

In the biggest moment of his young career, two incredible errors from Karius proved to be the difference between the Reds and Real Madrid, with the goalkeeper tearfully apologising to traveling Liverpool fans after the final whistle.

Here, we take a look at one potential arrival and departure Liverpool should prioritise on deadline day.

Virgil Van Dijk arrived at Anfield from Southampton for £75m in January while Alisson became Jurgen Klopp's fourth signing of the summer in a then-world record £65m swoop last month.

The Lyon midfielder would be the cherry on top of the cake of Liverpool's transfer window and has the potential to be one of the savviest bits of business the club has done all summer.

Goals were clearly not a problem for Liverpool last season and while Salah, Mane and Firmino will lead the charge once again, Daniel Sturridge appears to be back to somewhere near full fitness and young Ben Woodburn will continue to develop. "It's so easy. All the people in the pubs think they know and understand football 100%".

"But if you asked them: "What does a goalkeeper do?' They couldn't say more than 'catch balls". They have no clue about goalkeeper techniques and all that stuff.

"I just don't see United getting closer to City".

"He's constantly in there developing, changing training programmes, working with the boys. He's also a fantastic lad".

Liverpool finished their pre-season on a high with a 3-1 win over Torino in the final friendly before their season opener against West Ham United on Sunday.

"Now we have found a solution that everyone is happy with - a fantastic goalkeeper".

"For Raggy (Klavan) and Joel it is probably not good enough as they are not fit for the weekend, but we don't need 12 centre-halves".
