José Mourinho does not expect any Manchester United deadline-day signings

Mr Bridge said: "On balance, the earlier deadline for the transfer in of players may have contributed towards a reduction in gross player transfer spending by the Premier League clubs".

Jose Mourinho has revealed that several key players will be missing in Friday's Premier League opener against Leicester City at Old Trafford. He was also asked a follow-up question to clarify that there would be no incomings or outgoings throughout the day.

He added that he feels Manchester City will simply be too good for their rivals, commenting: "I said at the end of last season that to go down as an all-time great team, they need to be serial winners and defend their title, and I think they will do that".

"The net expenditure is a record as it stands but you'd think with three weeks left for European clubs to buy Premier League players, and Premier League clubs by the looks of it not having done their selling yet, it might not stay that way".

"I will have to focus on the players I have and in relation to this first couple of matches".

"Is hard for me to understand, to feel, to believe we finish second".

Sergio Romero, Valencia, Marcos Rojo, Dalot, Ander Herrera and Matic are all injured for Leicester's visit, while Mourinho needs to check on the fitness of those that returned late from the World Cup.

"I said we would sign one or two, but the second one wasn't possible". "In Championship Manager you can just press a button".

"Of course it's hard to understand for people in football that Tottenham didn't sign or sell players, but sometimes in football you need to behave differently", he said in his press conference earlier today, as per The Mirror.

"I told that during pre-season it looked like I was saying something absolutely out of order, something insane, I repeat and maybe tomorrow the reaction is the same: Pre-season hard when you don't have your players to work, as simple as that".

Pre-season has clearly been a frustrating time for Mourinho, while a perceived lack of respect for leading his side to second spot last term has got under his skin.
