Johnny Depp's Biggie Smalls Movie 'City of Lies' Pulled From Release Calendar

In a stunningly unexpected twist, City of Lies, the upcoming true-crime drama about the investigation into the murder of The Notorious B.I.G., has been delayed from its original release date indefinitely, according to a report by Deadline. It was set to arrive on the 46th birthday of the Notorious BIG, whose murder is the subject of the film.

In a turn of events that may or may not be related to this false start for City of Lies, star Johnny Depp was recently sued for an alleged assault and battery incident against the film's location manager. The distributor has yet to announce a new date for the Brad Furman-directed film, which stars Forest Whitaker as a journalist who partners with Depp's character.

The film's producer Miriam Segal and director Brad Furman are also named in Greg "Rocky" Brooks' lawsuit, as Brooks claims he was sacked after refusing to say he wouldn't sue over the Depp incident. It's unclear if that's what contributed to "City of Lies" getting yanked from the schedule, though. Depp is named in the suit alongside Furman and Depp's Infinitum Nihil production company.

According to Deadline, Depp's movie was set to release on September 7, but that will no longer be the case.

The film had a hard production process with Depp allegedly assaulting a crew member, former location manager Greg "Rocky" Brooks, on set in Los Angeles. Brooks also alleges that he was sacked when he wouldn't agree not to sue, according to Associated Press reports. Depp denied the allegations and Heard later issued a joint statement with her ex-husband saying "there was never any intent of physical or emotional harm".
