It is Android 9 Pie! Official list of changes & new features

For the rest of Google's devices still seeing updates, we have new Oreo (8.1) files for Nexus 6P (OPM6.171019.030.H1), Nexus 5X (OPM6.171019.030.H1), and Pixel C (OPM4.171019.021.Y1).

First a radical new updated design leaked that showed that Google had gone back to the drawing board with its well-reviewed but disappointingly sold Google Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL phones, and returned with a device that - especially in its larger incarnation - looked a lot like the iPhone X. Google has responded to these changes with revamped navigational controls. The name is something of a damp squib and now the game of wait-and-see-if-I-actually-get-the-update begins. Swiping up from below brings up the app selection menu and swiping from the bottom to the right takes you to a multitasking screen where you can switch between whatever apps you might have open. A feature called App Actions will try to predict what you want to do next with your phone, like help you navigate to work when you're getting ready for a commute or suggest a Spotify playlist when you plug in headphones. You don't need to wait for the Pixel OTA, though.

Other AI-driven features are more subtle.

The ad mentions a Google Pixel 3 launch date of October 4, and says Google is looking for Canadian influencers to review the new phone, in a move some are interpreting as an imitation of Apple's marketing techniques. Likewise, adaptive brightness learns your display preferences for different types of light and will automatically make adjustments. When you've reached your limit, the app icon will gray out to discourage you from using it. With features like Adaptive Battery that can prioritize apps that you use the most for maximum battery life and Adaptive Brightness that knows how bright to set the screen based on the app you are using, these are a couple ways that AI aims to make using the OS a little bit better. You won't need an unlocked bootloader, but you will need a computer with ADB running.
