Israeli strike kills at least two Palestinians at Hamas site in Gaza

At least two Palestinians were killed on Tuesday when the Israeli army shelled a site affiliated with Hamas in the northern Gaza Strip, the Palestinian Health Ministry said in a statement.

The Israeli military said none of its troops was injured, but warned that it was prepared to "target any aggression against Israel and holds Hamas responsible for everything happening in and emanating from the Gaza Strip".

"Israeli forces have operated with near complete impunity for so long that unlawful killings and other flagrant violations of worldwide law have become the norm", Ayed Abu Eqtaish, Accountability Program director at DCIP said in the report.

High level sources in Gaza told "Al-Khaleej Online" newspaper that Hamas welcomed the amended Egyptian initiative, which added to the Hamas-Fatah reconciliation process three more conditions, including a prisoner exchange deal, truce in Gaza, and ending the siege on the strip.

But Hamas said its fighters were taking part in a live-fire exercise and that Israel would pay for their deaths. It released a video appearing to show militants shooting from a watchtower before a tank shell hits the position.

The men were both claimed as members of the Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades, a violent wing of Hamas.

Tensions have escalated since late March, when Hamas launched what would become regular mass protests along Israel's perimeter fence with Gaza.

Israel has lost tracts of farmland and forest to fires started by kites and helium balloons laden with incendiary material which have caused fires in Israeli forests and farmlands and flown over the border by Palestinians in Gaza.
