Fortnite Coaching: Parents Are Paying Upto $20/Hour To Train Kids

Logan Werner, an 18 year-old who's getting paid to finesse kids' Fortnite skills, said it's "surreal" that people are willing to spend money on a hobby that, in his experience, many adults tend to view as a waste of valuable time.

Now it seems like either I have become too old or the world has lost its goddamn mind.

Some parents paying for Fortnite tutors say they hope their children's gaming skills could eventually lead to a college scholarship or a lucrative career in e-sports - video games with their own professional leagues, competitions, star players and millions of devoted followers.

For $20 an hour, tutors train these children on strategy and ways to win Fortnite battles. There are also dedicated coaching marketplaces like Gamer Sensei, which charges between $US15 and $US35 an hour for "Fortnite" lessons. And these parents are serious: they actually want to help their children get better at playing a video game.

The news about these so-called Fortnite coaches was revealed recently by the Wall Street Journal, courtesy of Bleacher Report.

"There's pressure not to just play it but to be really good at it", Ally Hicks told the Wall Street Journal.

Fortnite Mobile on Android is a much-awaited upcoming release of an already hugely popular game.

Why would parents want to encourage their children to stay inside and play video games all day?

The trend has caught on in the United States as well, with father Nick Mennen paying a $20 hourly rate for his son to receive lessons. Everyone that isn't you, basically - all playing Fortnite, their brothers and sisters playing Fortnite, their mates, and most likely - if they have them - their kids.

The WSJ report names contracting sites like Bidvine who has hired out hundreds of video game tutors in recent months.
