Apple erases Alex Jones shows from iTunes and podcasting app

In a blog post Monday the social network said it removed four of Jones's pages for violating its community standards.

Facebook emphasized that it hasn't technically removed the pages but simply unpublished them, which leaves the door open for an appeal by Jones. "Spotify can confirm it has removed specific episodes of The Alex Jones Show podcast for violating our hate content policy".

In a statement, Apple told Buzzfeed News: "We have clear guidelines that creators and developers must follow to ensure we provide a safe environment for all of our users. We believe in representing a wide range of views, so long as people are respectful to those with differing opinions", an Apple spokesperson said in a statement to TechCrunch. Only one InfoWars podcast, Real News With David Knight, is still available on Apple.

BuzzFeed News reported on Sunday that Apple (AAPL) had removed five podcasts associated with InfoWars from iTunes and its podcast app.

In other recent actions against Jones, Facebook suspended his personal profile from the site for 30 days in late July for what the company said was bullying and hate speech.

Last week Spotify removed several episodes of "The Alex Jones Show", following similar moves by YouTube and Facebook the week before.

The theories he has promoted include that the September 11, 2001 attacks on NY and Washington were staged by the U.S. government.

The shooting left 26 children and adults dead at a CT elementary school.

Apple did not immediately respond to a request for comment from TIME. "He is a performance artist", Wilhite added, likening Jones' public persona as akin to Jack Nicholson performing the Joker in Batman. The company said the removal of the four pages on Monday was unrelated.

He has also claimed that many of children killed in the 2012 Sandy Hook massacre were actors.

The pages include one for Jones' flagship radio show InfoWars as well as his fan page.

Founded in 1999 and often described as "actually only a tiny bit worse than Fox News", InfoWars has over the years gained a large following among far right conservatives.

Some of Infowars notorious assertions have included claiming that 9/11 was perpetrated by "globalists" in the USA government; that the deadly mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in 2012 was a hoax; and that David Hogg, one of the students who survived the February 2018 shooting massacre in Parkland, Florida, was a paid actor. Families of Sandy Hook victims have filed lawsuits against Jones for defamation.
