Wimbledon has made its decision regarding World Cup final clash

Tennis fans around the World will have to contend with a huge sporting headache as the 2018 World Cup final will be primed to begin midway into the Wimbledon Final.

Lewis said he had not asked Federation Internationale de Football Association to consider moving the World Cup final to a different time.

According to the BBC (and even commentators during the matches yesterday), the Wimbledon committee say that the gentlemen's singles final will commence at 2pm, as it does every year, regardless of the possibility that England may be in the World Cup final which starts next Sunday at 4pm.

However, he did offer a way that fans would be able to watch the game if they wanted to; albeit not quite with the same communal atmosphere as a big screen showing.

The players (at the World Cup) are going to look up in the crowd and not understand what´s going on at Wimbledon!

The final will be played at the Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow.

Lewis also insisted that there were no plans to show either Wednesday´s semi-final or Sunday´s final at the World Cup on Wimbledon´s giant TV screen attached to one of the sides of Court One.

The grounds at Wimbledon were sparsely populated as England attempted to reach their first World Cup final since 1966.

Centre Court was only a third full on Saturday when droves of fans left the arena to watch England's victory over Sweden.

Club rules that all mobile phones and tablets should be switched off "in and around the courts of play" have been relaxed, however, with Lewis stating that they would only be enforced if they affected others.

"Saturday was a fantastic day at the championships".

"I was out and about around the grounds and you could tell when England had scored".

"We had superb tennis going on and we were benefiting from modern technology where people were able to follow the football and enjoy it, without disturbing other people", he told the paper. We didn't receive a single complaint from anyone who was here who felt their enjoyment of the tennis was interrupted and I'm sure it'll be the same next Sunday.

Wimbledon chiefs once again stuck to their guns, refusing to show the football on the big screen in front of the hill.
