Samsung 2019 schedule: hold off on that Galaxy Note 9

After posting seven straight quarters of earnings growth, Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd.

Operating profit for the three-month period is expected to come in at 14.8 trillion won ($13 billion) from 58 trillion won (£39bn) in revenues.

Samsung will also launch an entry-level Galaxy S smartphone next year. That compares with the 15.3 trillion-won average of analysts' estimates compiled by Bloomberg. This device will serve to expand the lineup's market penetration and boost Samsung's overall gadget sales.

It was originally believed that Samsung would target a January launch for the S10, so that it could make up for the sluggish sales of the Galaxy S9. That streak was primarily fueled by its lucrative memory chip business, which profited from increased demand from device manufacturers thanks to a reduced supply in the industry.

Korean business news site The Bell has it from multiple unnamed sources that Samsung is developing samples for three Galaxy S10 devices referred to internally as Beyond 0, Beyond 1, and Beyond 2, which are codenames we've seen several times before.

There are also fears that a Chinese price-fixing probe into chipmakers including Samsung could limit the upside for DRAM prices, as China is the largest importer of memory products.

Still, the disappointing quarter is likely to be a temporary blip on Samsung's balance sheet, as analysts told the Financial Times they expect its profits to rebound in the second half of this year.

The new phone is expected to have a 6.38-inch display, slightly bigger than the current model's 6.32-inches. Samsung won't provide net income or break out divisional performance until it releases final results later this month.
