Rockets' Paul to stay put with four-year max contract

Chris Paul is rejoining the leagues's second best lineup.

The rare circumstances of his arrival in Houston, headlined by an "opt-in-and-trade" scenario, seemed to provide clarity that the future Hall of Fame point guard would be re-signing with the Rockets and that was the operating norm throughout the process.

According to ESPN, the nine-time All-Star will re-sign with Houston for four years and $160 million.

Paul's deal expired at the end of the 2018 season, and the promise of resigning on a max contract was part of the reason he worked so hard to orchestrate a trade from the Clippers past year.

Paul confirmed the deal on Twitter.

"RUN IT BACK", wrote Paul alongside an image of him in action for the Rockets.

The 13-year veteran, who just finished his first season in Houston after spending six years each in New Orleans and with the Los Angeles Clippers, has career averages of 18.7 points, 9.8 assists and 4.5 rebounds in 35.3 minutes per game. Paul will turn 37 years old during the 2022 postseason.

LeBron James, of course, remains the biggest story of free agency, as the world waits to see where the game's biggest star will end up in 2018-19.

And, his departure frees up more cap room to make a potential run at the biggest prize of them all in James.
