Riyad Mahrez set to join Man City from Leicester this week

Leicester City attacker Riyad Mahrez is slated to have a Manchester City medical this week.

Signing James Maddison, 21, from Norwich City triggered Leicester's willingness to enter into talks with City with the likely fee for Mahrez funding their summer spending. The Algerian winger looked to be on his way to the Etihad in January, but last minute demands by Leicester City collapsed the deal.

Having won the Premier League title with Leicester against all odds in 2015/16 and being named PFA Players' Player of the Year, Mahrez tried to leave the club twice during the summer of 2017.

The majority of Leicester's squad reported back for pre-season training on Monday, but Mahrez and Algeria team-mate Islam Slimani were not seen as they will join the team later.

Mahrez enjoyed a fine season in 2017-18, as he provided 10 assists and scored 12 goals in 36 Premier League appearances.

Leicester rejected an offer of £50m plus winger Patrick Roberts - who is valued at £15m - in January, ultimately demanding a straight £80m which City refused to pay.

The rumours are not going away about Real Madrid forward Cristiano Ronaldo signing for Juventus with the 33-year-old Portugal captain ready to accept a £26.5m-a-year contract.

According to a number of sources, he is now expected to undergo a medical in the coming days, with the club's thought to have agreed a deal worth around £60m - significantly less than was being discussed six months ago.
