Fernando Torres has confirmed which club he will play for next

This comes just days after they failed in their attempt to convince former Liverpool and Chelsea striker Fernando Torres to move to Australia.

Torres bid farewell to Atlético Madrid at the end of last season after his second spell there, a tear falling down his cheek, to a standing ovation. "My new team will be Sagan Tosu of Japan", the 34-year-old Torres said at an event held at the gym he owns in Madrid on Tuesday (July 10).

In fact, he is one of the most experienced Premier League strikers still playing today.

Embarrassed J. League officials were forced to issue an apology in May after jumping the gun on Sagan's acquisition of the player in a post that was quickly deleted.

He told reporters according to UK Sun that: "We have had proposals from all continents, but my new team will be the Japanese Sagan Tosu".

He announced that he is joining Sagan Tosu as a free agent after leaving Atletico Madrid last month.

The Spaniard scored 126 goals in 314 matches in an eight-year spell in England, his best years coming at Liverpool where he netted 81 times in 142 games to become an Anfield hero.

"I have had offers from France, Germany and even one from Spain, but at no point did I ever think about going to another European team".

Both players might be fighting for different objectives, as Iniesta's new team are now in sixth place, while Torres' club are 17th out of 18. Sources indicate the Spanish forward was looking for somewhere in the neighborhood of $4.5 million per season but terms of the deal with Sagan Tosu were not disclosed.

"It will be fun for the Japanese fans to see Torres turn out".
