FDA, CDC eye over 200 illnesses from Del Monte veggies

Seven people were hospitalized but no deaths have been reported. Two cases were from vegetables bought in another state but consumed in MI. A recall was issued on 15 June 2018 for trays with a "Best if used by" date of 17 June which were sold at Kwik Trip, Kwik Star, Demond's, Sentry, Potash, Meehan's, Country Market, FoodMax Supermarket, and Peapod stores in Iowa, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana and MI.

Multiple U.S. government agencies are investigating illnesses associated with hundreds of Del Monte vegetable trays sold in some states in the Midwest, officials said. As many as 54 cases have been reported in Minnesota.

A previous major cyclosporiasis outbreak was reported in 2015, when 546 individuals were infected across 31 states. Del Monte Fresh Produce vegetable tray) 7 1752478604 3 (28 oz. The condition has been linked to "6 oz., 12 oz., and 28 oz. vegetable trays containing fresh broccoli, cauliflower, celery sticks, carrots, and dill dip", which were recalled by Del Monte Fresh Produce on June 15. Because of the expiration date, these likely no longer are in consumers' possession, but in case you still have them, you're encouraged to throw them away.

FDA has not identified which of the ingredients is the vehicle for this outbreak; each component of these vegetable trays is under consideration.

Cyclospora cayetanensis, the CDC noted, is a "single-celled parasite that causes an intestinal infection called cyclosporiasis".

The investigation is ongoing and the CDC will provide updates when more information is available. Some people who are infected with Cyclospora do not have any symptoms.

Health officials say it can take up to a week to develop symptoms, which can include diarrhea, loss of appetite, nausea, cramping, bloating, increased gas, fatigue and low-grade fever.
