Djokovic 'peaking at the right moment' and into the Wimbledon semi-finals

Federer wasted a match point during the 2-6, 6-7 (5), 7-5, 6-4, 13-11, match.

But the 32-year-old Anderson refocused in the second set to end the Swiss star's streak of consecutive games won on serve at 85 as he raced into a 3-0 lead before Federer quickly hit back to win the next three.

The 20-time Grand Slam victor is aiming for a 13th Wimbledon semi-final and to extend his record for the most last four appearance at the All England Club in the Open Era, having taken sole ownership of the record from American Jimmy Connors during his 2017 title run.

However, Federer has held all of his 55 service games this year and last dropped serve in the semi-finals in 2017 - 81 service games ago.

Anderson will take on the victor of the quarter-final clash between former Wimbledon finalist Milos Raonic and ninth-ranked John Isner.

Roger Federer was a point away from a rather tidy, straight-set victory in the Wimbledon quarterfinals.

Top seed Roger Federer, second seed Rafael Nadal and 12th seed Novak Djokovic face formidable tests in their last-eight matches.

The odds are heavily stacked against Kevin Anderson ahead of his Wimbledon quarter-final against defending champion Roger Federer on Wednesday.

"Well, it's going to happen anyway, if I'm going in the final or not, the Wimbledon final will take place, and so will the World Cup final", Federer said in a seemingly tongue-in-cheek response.

"Just today, when I needed it, I couldn't get it up".

World number one Nadal, the two-time champion, reached his first quarter-final at Wimbledon since 2011 - when he went on to finish runner-up - with a 6-3, 6-3, 6-4 win over Jiri Vesely of the Czech Republic.

Djokovic secured that game with a forehand victor, then saved two game points on Nishikori's serve before converting his first match point with a forehand down the line.

"I think Rafa and Del Potro had to be on Centre Court", Murray told BBC. Federer's forehand was inaccurate much of the day and he seemed bothered by Anderson's power.

"Do you think I ruined the court?" he bellowed at Ramos.

He forced a tiebreak but, despite losing the first mini-break, Federer turned things around to go two sets ahead.

But if the IL men's tennis coach could chime in with a piece of advice for one of his former Illini standouts, he'd offer up the following before Kevin Anderson faces Roger Federer in the quarterfinals at Wimbledon.
