Cardi B counter-sues her ex-manager for $15 million

He also sued Cardi B - real name Belcalis Almanzar - claiming she and her publicist, Patientce Foster (sic) disparaged him on social media.

Cardi B has filed a $15 million counter-suit against her former manager Klenord "Shaft" Raphael.

Cardi - who is expecting her first child with Offset - also said that Raphael sought to take 20% in commission from her earnings and he even asked for half of the proceeds she earned from her Sony publishing deal.

Beyond the money, Shaft also tried to control everything Cardi did, including "barriers between her and people close to her in an effort to maintain complete control over her".

The counterclaim, filed by Almanzar, (minus Foster, Quality Control Management, Lee and Thomas), denies nearly all but the basic allegations, acknowledging that Foster is indeed her publicist, for example, or that she did indeed sign a management contract and recording contract with Raphael and his company WorldStar.

These allegations come with a pretty hefty claim for damages: more than $15 million.

The complaint, which can be read in full here, states: "Ms. Almanzar entrusted Shaft and his related entities with many aspects of her professional and business affairs and that trust was abused".

After filing the complaint, a representative for Raphael explained: "Since discovering Cardi B in 2015, Shaft has played an integral role in developing her music career and public image".

Cardi B is countersuing her former manager Shaft for breach of contract.

Cardi B is being represented by Paul LiCalsi, an entertainment attorney who has represented major artist such as The Beatles.

Cardi B is now one of the hottest hip-hop artists with the success of her smash hit "Bodak Yellow" past year.

TMZ reports that the counter-suit accuses Raphael of trying to dictate who she "should and should not see romantically". Her latest album "Invasion of Privacy" was released earlier this month and debuted at #1 on the Billboard Hot 200.
