US, Mexico and Canada to host 2026 World Cup finals

Thank you for entrusting us with the privilege of hosting the FIFA World Cup in 2026.

But Morocco, bidding for a fifth time, had closed the gap on "United 2026" to the point that nobody in Moscow wanted to make a public prediction ahead of the vote at the FIFA Congress, where 207 member associations, minus the four bidding nations, cast ballots.

But compared to North America, Morocco's bid existed largely on paper - many stadiums and roads would have had to have been built and critics questioned how it would have coped with the 2026 tournament, which will be expanded to 48 teams.

The 2026 World Cup will be hosted by the U.S., Canada, and Mexico, with the U.S. hosting 60 of the 80 matches. The "United" bid from North America went in as the front-runner after inspectors gave it a score of 4 out of 5 in terms of the countries' ability and readiness to organize an excellent tournament. Canada's sole World Cup appearance was in 1986 in Mexico, where they did not score a goal, losing to France, Hungry and the Soviet Union in the group stage.

Morocco Federation: "I wish to congratulate Fifa for the conduct of this process and congratulate the president for what he has done in order to move things towards more transparency and more inclusion".

Monterrey, Guadalajara and Mexico City are up for consideration in Mexico, while Montreal, Toronto and Edmonton are the Canadian cities that have been proposed.

United Bid Selected to Host the 2026 FIFA World Cup

The 2026 edition will be the second World Cup hosted on United States soil, and the first one in 1994 still holds the record for the most tickets sold and the most revenue ever generated in addition to leading to the launch of Major League Soccer just two years later.

Historically, the host nation has always automatically qualified for the World Cup - it hasn't been forced to play games in order to qualify for the tournament. "We are all united in football", US Soccer president Carlos Cordeiro said.

"Russian President Vladimir Putin said he would be glad to see all guests here in Moscow and certainly this concerns the guests from the United States at the highest level", Peskov said, speaking on whether Trump could be invited to Moscow as a guest at the World Cup.

"We will use this platform to unite the world around football and help create a new and sustainable blueprint for the future of FIFA World Cups".

Wednesday's vote offers hope that this could lead to an entirely new generation of Canadian youngsters taking up soccer, which could have long-term benefits for the men's team. It was all for wearing that jersey, to represent my country and get us to a World Cup.

This was the first World Cup vote since 2010, when USA and Switzerland investigators unveiled corruption on an unprecedented scale afterwards.
