Trump Appeals Ruling That Stops Him From Blocking Twitter Critics

She stated President Trump's twitter account is a personal forum and preventing users from seeing it was a violation of their right to free speech.

"We're pleased that the White House unblocked our clients from the president's Twitter account but disappointed that the government intends to appeal the district court's thoughtful and well-supported ruling", said Jameel Jaffer, executive director of the Knight First Amendment Institute at Columbia University, which brought the lawsuit a year ago on behalf of the seven plaintiffs.

President Donald Trump is asking an appeals court to restore his power to block critics on Twitter.

Confirming that the seven plaintiffs in the case had been unblocked by the president, a lawyer for the plaintiffs, Jameel Jaffer, said he was disappointed by news of the challenge to the ruling.

Judge Naomi Reice Buchwald (rees BUHK'-wahld) ruled last month that Trump was violating the First Amendment. We complained. We sued. We sued. We won our First Amendment lawsuit in federal court.

The plaintiffs argued that Trump's account amounted to a public forum - a "digital town hall" - in which the president makes official policy pronouncements and the public, by responding to his postings and to the tweets other people make in reply to them, engages in debate. "If they have been blocked on the basis of their viewpoints, the White House should unblock them immediately".

Why Trump doesn't simply "mute" his critics on Twitter as opposed to blocking them isn't clear. It should go without saying that those individuals have the same rights as our clients. "Wow!", Cohen tweeted on Monday.

"While Trump unblocked my co-plaintiffs and me, I am deeply concerned that many of my fellow American citizens remain blocked", Eugene Gu, a surgeon, tweeted. He also reminds the nation, often, that he believes the media pushes a "fake news" narrative and the only way for Americans to get the "real news" is by following him on Twitter.
