Ryan Hunter-Reay races to first IndyCar win since 2015

Leading the pack to start the race, Reuss spun out in Turn 2 of the Belle Isle racetrack on the pace lap and hit the wall.

The idea that the executive might not be exclusively at fault for the crash is supported by championship leader Will Power, who said the turn where the crash took place is very tricky one and it might have fooled anyone. Reuss instead decided that this was the flawless opportunity to demonstrate the ZR1's acceleration and active safety equipment, fishtailing it into a wall on the exit of Turn 2 and showering the track in debris and shattered dignity. Debris scattered everywhere as Reuss and Sandy assessed the damage. Chevrolet issued a tightly worded statement about the "incident" that did not identify Reuss and said "many factors contributed, including weather and track conditions". His passenger, an IndyCar executive, also emerged unscathed. "You know, I feel like with what we had, that's the most that we could have got out of that race". "I am OK. I have driven this course many, many, many times". His shunt at the Detroit Grand Prix is further proof that this type of thing can happen to anyone. Routine pace auto driver Oriol Servia immediately said it was a troublesome spot in the track, even for professional race vehicle drivers, and Indy 500 victor Will Power agreed.

Several drivers were sympathetic to Reuss, according to the News. "I know that thing is 750 horsepower", Hunter-Reay said. On Facebook, he says he let down his family and GM.

"It's very easy to do, and the traction control must have been turned off". He says, "Sorry does not describe it". So yeah, I felt - it wasn't really his fault. "The car's safety systems performed as expected". Because it's one of those jobs that's very important, and yet no one ever tends to notice when you're doing it well. That's a fast vehicle.

Ryan Hunter-Reay went on to win the race, marking his first IndyCar victory since 2015.

He said the delay was 'no big deal, ' following his win. He had finished as the runner-up Saturday, in the first of the weekend's Detroit Grand Prix races, while Scott Dixon won that event.
