Netanyahu: Europeans support Israel’s demand for Iran to leave Syria

The prime minister said that even though Iran's departure from Syria is going to be a "long process, I believe that if you set a goal, if you know where you are going, you have a greater chance of getting there".

Hezbollah has been a primary ally of Assad in the country's seven-year civil war that has killed over 500,000 people.

Mr. Assad also reiterated his long-held position that the West is fuelling the war with the aim of toppling him.

According to him, the involvement of foreign powers such as Britain, the United States and France has been prolonging the conflict.

"We were about to achieve reconciliation in the southern part of Syria only two weeks ago, but the West interfered and asked the terrorists not to follow this path in order to prolong the Syrian conflict", Assad said, Al Jazeera reported. Assad admitted that he has had disagreements with Russian Federation and Iran- which also supports the Syrian army-throughout the seven-year conflict.

Israel carried out a wave of airstrikes against Iranian forces in Syria last month. "How could they help the Syrian army advancing and at the same time work with our enemies in order to destroy our army?"

Also Dia Hariri, an anti-regime activist from Daraa, stressed that Hezbollah and Iran have for years worked to establish themselves in the Syrian south, saying: "I do not think that Iran is ready to leave without a war after all these efforts within Syria". Two weeks ago, JOL reported that Israel and Russian Federation had reached an agreement to withdraw Iranian-backed forces from Syria's southern region, near the Israeli border. At the same time, both groups are openly hostile toward Israel, and the Israeli military has preemptively struck when it feels threatened by their presence close to its border.

A picture of Syria's President Bashar al-Assad is seen in Ramouseh, a government controlled area of Aleppo Thomson Reuters BEIRUT (Reuters) - Syrian President Bashar al-Assad denied that military ally Russian Federation was making decisions for him, but said it was natural for there to be differences of opinion between allies, in an interview published on Sunday by state media.

In the new interview, Assad also blasted the American and British governments for "interfering" with his nation's sovereignty.

Netanyahu did not mention in the cabinet meeting that each of the leaders also made clear publicly that they continue to support the Iranian nuclear agreement which Israel adamantly opposes, and which the United States withdrew from last month.

"They want to exchange information despite their governments being politically against ours, so we said".
