Mars to come closest to Earth in 15 years

Here's what Nasa said about Mars going into opposition: "Like all the planets in our solar system, Earth and Mars orbit the sun".

When the orbits of our planet and Mars are close, it makes Mars much brighter and easier to see.

Nasa added: 'During opposition, Mars and the sun are on directly opposite sides of Earth.

"If Earth and Mars followed perfectly circular orbits, opposition would be as close as the two planets could get". The red planet is expected to appear at its brightest in the sky on the morning of July 31.

How large Mars appears in the sky to people on Earth depends on where the two neighboring planets are in their elliptical journey.

Planetary opposition occurs whenever a planet sits directly opposite the sun while reaching its closest orbital point to Earth.

Back in 2016, Mars was at one of its farthest distances for much of the year, being 47 million miles (75.6 million kilometers) away and appearing very small through any telescopes.

Mars won't be this close again until September 15, 2035.

The occurrence of the Perihelic opposition usually happens in every 15 to 17 years, and it happened when it was aligned with the two planets close to each other.

Mars will be easily visible to the naked eye throughout July, outshining all but the brightest stars as it gets to its closest point. "Actually, it will be hard to miss".

Once it's at its peak, Mars will be brighter than almost anything else in the night sky short of the Moon, and it'll shine much brighter than either Venus or Jupiter.

This clearly wasn't true, because Mars is only half the size of Earth and is about 34 million miles away.

In the picture the device has captured the sand storm, which took place on the red planet close to him.

An illustration of Mars and Earth in opposition. The orbit of planet is not a flawless circle, it is actually follows an elliptical path. You can see this selfie in the image at the beginning of the article.

Additionally, other factors contribute to the changes as well. However, Mars will be in the spotlight for a couple of weeks in July and August.
