Frank McKenna Says Trump's Treatment of Trudeau Is 'Appalling'

"I feel that this has become a bad relationship; a relationship based on the President taking exactly what he wants", Grant's prime minister says.

Trudeau had been saying the same thing for several weeks, but Trump apparently found it reprehensible to repeat the message on the eve of his historic summit with North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un.

After he left the G7 summit in Quebec on Saturday, Trump posted a series of Tweets criticizing Trudeau for staying firm on the counter-tariffs imposed in reaction to US tariffs on Canadian steel and aluminum.

But Kudlow said he doesn't know whether there will be a deal and that Trump had no alternative but to respond the way he did to Trudeau's "very unfortunate" statements.

Before the apology, some USA lawmakers on Tuesday questioned the strong language the White House and Trump have used toward Canada in contrast to the praise he gave North Korea at Tuesday's summit in Singapore.

Trump has framed the topic of trade agreements as an issue of national security, a stance backed by the advisers he has stocked in his White House, including the new National Security Advisor John Bolton. Conspiracy theories, jokes and memes started bubbling up after the Canadian Prime Minister's eyebrows appeared uneven during his press conference with French president Emanuel Macron.

"I've never seen language like this, least of all from subordinates of the president directed at the prime minister of their greatest friend and ally", Mulroney said. We just shook hands.

"There's a special place in hell for any foreign leader that engages in bad faith diplomacy with President Donald J. Trump", Navarro insisted.

That was short-lived after Trump again took to Twitter following Prime Minister Trudeau reaffirmation of Canada's position on the tariffs.

"We finished the (G7) meeting and really everybody was happy".

As might be expected, Trudeau's foreign minister Chrystia Freeland took his side.

In response to the massive steel and aluminium tariffs imposed by the Trump administration, Canada which is one of the largest exporters of the same spoke out against the exorbitant duties.

"Fair Trade is now to be called Fool Trade if it is not Reciprocal".

"A reasonable, balanced and firm assertion that Canada will not be bullied, and that we will retaliate if the US Administration does not end its attack on our steel exports".

The president concluded his tweetstorm by saying, "Sorry, we can not let our friends, or enemies, take advantage of us on Trade anymore".

Trudeau was away from the House of Commons on a "personal" day on Monday.
