Fashion designer Kate Spade found dead, police say

Paying tribute to "the most handsome woman in the world", Andy also revealed her struggle with depression and anxiety, saying: "She was actively seeking help and working closely with her doctors to treat her disease, one that takes far too many lives". She was actively seeking help and working closely with her doctors to treat her disease, one that takes far too many lives.

Andy Spade also said that his wife had sought medical attention for mental health struggles in the years before her death. And it clearly wasn't her.

"There was a moment when you couldn't walk a block in NY without seeing one of her bags, which were just like her; colorful and unpretentious", Wintour said in a statement. In her suicide note, Spade reportedly told her daughter it was "not your fault" and to "ask daddy". "We are deeply heartbroken and miss her already".

Brosnahan said he knew Spade was having troubles and that she had been taking pills that he advised her not to take.

Police have previously said that she left a note pointing to "a tragic suicide", but her husband, Andy Spade, said on Wednesday that he had "yet to see any note". They were married for 24 years before her death.

Bea was living with both of us and we saw each other or spoke every day. "We want to honor her life and her major contribution to the fashion business and express our most honest condolences to the family". We were together for 35 years.

"My main concern is Bea and protecting her privacy as she deals with the unimaginable grief of losing her mother. We loved each other very much and simply needed a break", Andy Spade added.

"We are grateful for the incredible outpouring of love and support the family has received over the last few days", the statement reads. "Bea - I have always loved you".

Coach, now known as Tapestry, bought the Kate Spade brand past year for $2.4 billion, seeking to broaden its appeal.

Earl "Frank" Brosnahan, Spade's father, has also spoken out about his daughter's death, telling The Kansas City Star he'd spoken to Spade the night before. They started a new venture in 2016, called Frances Valentine, selling handbags and footwear.

Spade - a Missouri native who first worked as a journalist, including a stint as accessories editor at Mademoiselle magazine - launched her Kate Spade fashion label in 1993 with her husband Andy and the help of outside investors.
