WhatsApp's latest update brings more order and control to group chats

Group creators can now add a group description when creating a group, allowing them to show participants a short blurb that describes the objective, guidelines, or topics for the group.

The update comes after WhatsApp promised a new group video calling feature at the Facebook F8 conference last month. The description pops up at the top whenever someone new joins in.

WhatsApp has been pretty busy this year, rolling out with new features frequently. Most of these new WhatsApp group features have been seen in prior Android beta builds, stable builds on either platform, or have been spotted in development but were disabled by default.

Admin controls: WhatsApp has been rumoured to be working on admin controls for improving Groups experience for a long time.

Another new tool allows administrators to choose whether or not to restrict changes to the subject, icon, and description. There are also people coming together in groups on WhatsApp like new parents looking for support, students organising study sessions, and even city leaders coordinating relief efforts after natural disasters.

Have you received the new WhatsApp update yet? This should solve your daily conundrum with family WhatsApp Groups.

Another feature being added to WhatsApp group chat is a change that makes it impossible to remove a Group creator from groups that they started - according to the company in a recent blog post.

Group catch up: When you have been away from a group chat, quickly catch up on messages that mention or reply to you by tapping on a new @ button that appears at the bottom right corner of the chat. With Participant search, users can find anyone in a group by searching for them on the info page.

Available to both iOS and Android users, the new features include a Slack-style "group catch up" option, and it is also possible to add a description to group chats, and search for individual participants.

Another important feature being added is it lets you avoid that inconvenience when someone adds you to Groups when you actually left intentionally.
