May Bank Holiday weather set to be a scorcher with 28°C sunshine

The forecasters seem confident that sunnier times are set to brighten up the county, predicting warm sunny periods and afternoon temperatures in the high teens.

There is a 10 per cent chance of rain, but the skies will only be partly cloudy during the day.

The first May Day bank holiday was the 1 May 1978 and it rained all day across parts of England and Wales, though strangely it was sunny and warm in Scotland - where it wasn't a bank holiday.

Believe it or not weather foreacasters at Met Éireann says the sun is going to come out this weekend and temperatures are going to continue to rise into next week. Widespread temperatures will be in the low to mid 20s.

However, hay fever sufferers are being warned to brace themselves for a "perfect storm" of tree pollen over the weekend and into Monday - which will see the highest levels of air pollen.

According to the Met Office, tomorrow will be a dry day with warm, sunny spells and temperatures as high as 22C.

At this stage the best of the cloud breaks for the Bank Holiday Weekend will be in the south of the region, but we'll firm up on the detail over the coming few days.

"Top temperatures will range 14C to 20C, all in mainly light to moderate southwest breezes, occasionally fresh near west and northwest coasts".

This morning will be dry, bright and sunny before the cloud moves in later but temperatures are still tipped to reach 17C. Cooler along coastal fringes of the west and northwest with cloudier conditions here bringing a little patchy drizzle at times.

Continuing dry in most areas on Friday night with a mix of cloud and clear spells.

Yorkshire could be set for record temperatures this Bank Holiday weekend.

. Maximum temperature 19 °C is forecast.

ExactaWeather forecaster James Madden said the warm weather is expected to last for at least 10 days as the spell could be an extension of summer.
