Kristen Stewart Smashes Sexist Rules By Taking Shoes Off At Cannes

But, as it started to rain, Kristen headed toward the stairs removing her heels in order to get there a little quicker.

She was present for the Monday night gala premiere of "BlacKkKlansman", Spike Lee's new film.

With high heels being the standard red carpet tradition, Kristen choosing to shed remove them midway not only shocked us but took the world by surprise too.

The actress, who in the recent years earned the moniker Queen of Cannes, isn't representing a film at the 2018 festival.

This year's Cannes Film Festival has already been one of the most political in several years, with female stars protesting against industry sexism, several directors barred from attending and bans hanging over some movies.

In an effort to put an end to the age-old sexist tradition, the member of the jury, Kristen has begun speaking out against the dress code and the sexist fashion expectations at the event. "If you're not asking guys to wear heels and a dress, you can not ask me either".

Kristen Stewart told the Hollywood Reporter previous year:"If you're not asking guys to wear heels and a dress, you can not ask me either". You can not come in.' Then [I'm going to say], 'Neither is my friend.

She once again addressed the issue in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter in 2017, "There's definitely, like, a distinct dress code, right?"

"People get very upset if you don't wear heels or whatever". It's just like you simply can not ask me to do something that you are not asking him [to do].

The festival declined to comment on the report at the time but confirmed women were required to wear high-heels to red carpet screenings although this has since been disputed by festival director Thierry Fremaux. It's just kind of a given. You have to wear a dress. But now, it's awesome.
