HOOPS HOAX: Man, 25, allegedly posed as teen to play basketball

According to dallasnews.com, a 25-year-old man was arrested and faces a charge of tampering with government records after using them to enroll in high school and play basketball.

He also began dating a 14-year-old classmate who thought he was 17.

Sidney Bouvier Gilstrap-Portley alleged to be a Hurricane Harvey refugee when he transferred and enrolled as a freshman to Dallas' Skyline High School in August under the name Rashun Richardson.

DISD officials say Gilstrap-Portley gained access to schools at a time when the district had opened its doors to hurricane evacuees.

"It's unbelievable to me that he could get away with this", she said.

The Dallas ISD is now investigating one of their students who they were told was Rashun Richardson.

"We believe it is absolutely essential that every young person, especially in times of great difficulty, feels safe and secure, and that was the guiding principle when we were welcoming students displaced by the hurricane", Bayer said.

The district tells WFAA students who've been through a natural disaster or are homeless aren't asked for the same documentation that's typically required, per federal law.

The 25-year-old was arrested last week and charged of tampering with government records and is now out on bond.

A Dallas Independent School District spokesperson told WFAA the man may have provided documents such as immunization records or proof of a physical in order to enroll.

His bogus persona was finally revealed after Phillip Randal, one of his former coaches from North Mesquite High School, had recognized him during a tournament he was involved in. According to Preston Hollow People, Gilstrap-Portley (as Richardson) most recently scored 17 points during an opening-round playoff game. Sidney hadn't shown up to class since April 25 and was just booked into the Dallas County Jail on Friday.

"We have some liberal policies for homeless students, but he knew that". After learning about this situation, we immediately notified district and local authorities and necessary actions have been taken.
