BSF jawan killed in Pak ceasefire violation in LoC

"The group of terrorists that tried to infiltrate into our territory on Sunday might have sneaked through tunnel and their number is around five", Mr Sharma told reporters in a press conference here after attending wreath laying ceremony of a BSF jawan martyred in Pak firing during wee hours on Tuesday.

Pakistan has repeatedly violated ceasefire agreement with India, with more than 650 such incidents this year alone - till April.

"In this Pak aggression, one BSF constable, Devinder Singh was injured and he later succumbed to his injuries", said the BSF official. On March 14, BSF troops had also noticed suspicious movement of at least three people in combat fatigues and backpacks in Kathua. Singh was evacuated to a hospital but died on the way. "Pakistan Rangers started unprovoked firing and targeted forward border outposts during wee hours along the global border in Samba", the official spokesman said, adding that Indian forces "retaliated strongly and effectively".

"Two infiltration attempts were made along the global border since Sunday night". We have not so far detected any tunnel but we are looking for it.

The Army pressed helicopters into service during the search operation which entered the second day on May 15, the official said.

The firing from across the border comes barely four days ahead of the visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the State, and also ended months of lull in the border skirmishes along the IB which saw heavy Pakistan firing and shelling earlier this year.

However, the frequent ceasefire violation by Paksitan was going on along the LoC.
