WhatsApp to soon let you re-download deleted images, videos

WhatsApp beta version 2.18.109 for Android was first released on April 12. This feature is not available for iOS users because it is unlikely that users will delete anything from the internal file directory without access. According to the report, the recipient was able to download media from a text sent 2 months ago but there for the messages dating back to nearly a year, the application asks to request the sender to send the file again. If a user ended up deleting the content from the WhatsApp folder after downloading, there was no option to go back to the conversation and redownload the content after the expiration of the validity. At present, if users delete media including photos, GIFs, and videos from their phone they can not re-download the same on WhatsApp again.

WhatsApp has rolled out a new feature wherein users will be able to re-download the files that were deleted from the phone.

To make use of the Voice Recording lock feature, users will need to tap the mic button in the chat, and after 0.5 seconds, the UI will present a locked microphone button.

According to the report, files deleted two months ago could also be downloaded during the testing of the feature. However, it is important that we do not delete the message from WhatsApp otherwise it will be impossible to get it back. Only if the file has been deleted in sdcard/WhatsApp/ and you have the message in the chat, you can successfully download it again. The report also adds that even though the files are saved on the server they still come with end-to-end encryption.

WABetaInfo claims that it managed to download images and videos which were 2 to 3 months old, but only after several attempts. Rolling out the "WhatsApp Payment" feature will prove to be a game changer for Facebook owned messaging app. For now, this new feature is available only for the Android users and further tests are currently underway.
