Vigneault expects to be back behind Rangers' bench next season

The New York Rangers fired head coach Alain Vigneault following their 5-0 season-ending loss to the Philadelphia Flyers on Saturday. The Rangers, who lost to the Philadelphia Flyers, 5-0, finished last from the Metropolitan Division.

Vigneault trained the group for five seasons, making a Stanley Cup appearance in his first calendar year.

The 56-year-old Vigneault took the Rangers to the Stanley Cup season during his first season in NY in 2013-14.

NY went 226-147-37 with Vigneault as its head coach.

"I think my staff is the right staff for this job", Vigneault said. "I think one of the strongest assets of this organization is its coaching staff and their experience".

Vigneault did a great job for the Rangers, instantly gaining the respect of his players after the team fired John Tortorella in 2013.

In early February, the moment the staff was still above.500 and within three factors of a play off spot, General Manager Jeff Gorton didn't signify if Vigneault would return following this season. "Our record, it's pretty good with younger and older players". "Once we know the team we try and put in a system, it maximizes their talent and their potential and try and mask and work on the areas that we need improvement".

It took until Game 82 but the National Hockey League finally has its first coaching casualty of the season.
