Russian Federation condemns attack on Syria

Amid escalating tensions in the region, Russia has repeatedly warned the USA and its allies against taking any military action in Syria, as it might lead to grave consequences for the whole world, especially given the fact that Russian troops are deployed in the country.

Early on Saturday, US President Donald Trump announced the military action in Syria in response to the alleged chemical weapons attack in the city of Duma in the Damascus suburb of Eastern Ghouta.

"A pre-designed scenario is being implemented".

British Prime Minister Theresa May and French President Emmanuel Macron said the United Kingdom and France had joined in the attack.

"Again, we are being threatened".

Antov added that it was not acceptable to insult Russia's president: "Insulting the President of Russian Federation is unacceptable and inadmissible".

"Not one of the cruise missiles released by the U.S. and its allies entered the zone of responsibility of Russian air defences protecting facilities in Tartus and Hmeimim", the ministry said in a statement carried by the RIA Novosti state news agency, referring to the locations of Russia's naval facility in Tartus and its Hmeimim air base. "We warned that such actions will not be left without consequences", Anatoly Antonov said in a statement on Friday night.

The Russian Defense Ministry noted that the Syrian Armed Forces had used Soviet air defense systems S-125, S-200, Buk, and Kvadrat to repel the missile attacks.

Russia's demand for condemnation and an immediate halt to "aggression" and "any further use of force" by the US, Britain and France got support from only two other countries on the 15-member council - China and Bolivia.
