Police to provide update on McArthur case this morning

Suspected Toronto serial killer Bruce McArthur was charged with an eighth count of murder after police identified a Sri Lankan man whose dismembered body was found in a potted plant connected to McArthur, Toronto Police Detective Sgt. Hank Idsinga said Monday. McArthur had previously faced seven charges of first-degree murder.

The 66-year-old former landscaper is accused of killing Kirushna Kumar Kanagaratnam between Sept 3, 2015 and December 14, 2015.

On March 5, police released a photograph of a dead man which Det.

Kanagaratnam moved to Canada from Sri Lanka.

Police say McArthur targeted men he encountered through dating apps that cater to gay men, meeting them at bars in the Gay Village.

On Friday, police confirmed that they had identified the man in the photo but investigators have not released the name of the man or provided any details about his death.

Idsinga said investigators are looking into 15 other cold cases dating back to 1975, but have not found a connection.
