Mariah Carey Feels 'Uplifted' and 'Inspired' After Opening Up About Bipolar Disorder

Mariah Carey might be done with her former manager, but Stella Stolper isn't done with Mariah Carey. From a striptease during an interview with Carson Daly on MTV, to her unforgettably disastrous 2016 NYE performance, this Grammy winner's shenanigans have been making headlines for well over a decade.

Since she opened up about her battle in a People cover story published earlier this week, the singer seems to be grateful for the public support she's received.

In a fearless interview with PEOPLE, Mariah admitted that she "lived in denial" and "constant fear of being exposed" after a 2001 diagnosis, when she was hospitalised for a physical and mental breakdown.

What is Bipolar II disorder?

Mariah Carey is working on a memoir. I guess my depressive episodes were characterized by having very low energy.

Carey told the publication she is now in therapy and taking medication for bipolar II disorder, which involves periods of depression as well as hypomania. She is said to filed legal documents detailing her plans to sue the star for alleged violations of the US Civil Rights act, the Fair Employment and Housing Act, and breach of contract. "It does not have to define you and I refuse to allow it to define me or control me".

Fans have been incredibly supportive and have sent endless words of encouragement to Mariah since she came forward about her diagnosis on Wednesday. "Mariah Carey and Stella Bulochnikov remain partners in a number of business ventures, and will continue to support each other in those endeavours".

"Until recently I lived in denial and isolation and in constant fear someone would expose me", Carey told the magazine.

An onlooker said at the time: "She wheeled it out of the back room and carried sparklers".
