IPL Cricket: Williamson plays captain's knock in Sunrisers win

Kolkata Knight Riders will play their next IPL clash against Sunrisers Hyderabad at home on April 14.

Having swept aside Royal Challengers Bangalore at the same venue in their IPL opener, Dinesh Karthik and his men will have their task cut out against Kane Williamson's Sunrisers who have won both their fixtures so far. It was Williamson who looked more comfortable against the KKR bowlers.

The match is scheduled to be played at 8:00 PM tonight at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

Significantly, SRH's fielding did the major damage for the home team as Manish Pandey held onto two screamers to completely deflate KKR's batting.

On Mavi not bowling in the Powerplay, he said: "At that stage the spinners were bowling so well I could see they were a better wicket-taking option than the fast bowlers".

Bhuvneshwar Kumar took 3-26, while Shakib Al Hasan (2-21) and Billy Stanlake (2-21) were also impressive with the ball in Kolkata.

Kolkata Knight Riders: Chris Lynn, Sunil Narine, Robin Uthappa, Nitish Rana, Dinesh Karthik (capt, wk), Shubman Gill, Andre Russell, Mitchell Johnson, Kuldeep Yadav, Piyush Chawla, Shivam Mavi. It is uncertain whether the purple cap holder from the last two editions will make it for this game, but Sandeep Sharma adequately covered for Kumar. Will Vinay Kumar be finally relieved of the responsibility of bowling those crucial overs? Any/all of the five bowlers at Williamson's disposal are worthy picks, while the rest of the batting is a risk.

Nearly throughout their innings, the Knight Riders struggled to score freely and the batsmen's job only got more and more hard when play resumed post rain interruption. Curran came into the team due to Johnson suffering a niggle, and now KKR have to decide which pacer to play. He failed to attack in the second innings as well and let Sunrisers run away with the game. "So we have pace in the kitty", the KKR skipper told reporters on the eve of their match against Sunrisers Hyderabad.

Not quite in his elements today, Rashid could not pick up a wicket but ensured he wasn't taken to the cleaners in four decent overs.
