Gianluigi Buffon 'stands by' Michael Oliver comments

Gianluigi Buffon has launched a diatribe at referee Michael Oliver, after Juventus crashed out of the UCL at the hands of Madrid.

Juve had cancelled out a 3-0 deficit from the first leg when Oliver made a decision to award Los Blancos a stoppage-time penalty.

It was Juventus goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon's brutal behavior which has finally added to Real Madrid's dramatic foray into the semifinals of the Champions League earlier this week. It was an incredible game and we've all been talking about it for the last three days. "We're happy to be in the semi-finals".

There are few more likeable and that, largely, is why there was such sympathy for a player who had been overcome by fury, who had clearly terrified Oliver and later claimed that he had "a rubbish bin for a heart". He will realise the mistake he did.

After the game, the hot topic was undoubtedly the penalty incident which Buffon ranted about to the reporters in the mixed zone.

"If there is contact it is with my thigh and that is part of football". The player was ready to fall.

Buffon blamed Oliver for what he felt were two injustices - the penalty and the sending-off - long after the match had ended.

The Italy goalkeeper later called Oliver's character into question, describing him as having a "trash can" for a heart, but Pirlo defended his former team-mate's emotional response in what is likely to be the 40-year-old's final Champions League game.

"If just once, in one hard and complicated situation, because we were 30 seconds away from extra time - and we're not saying we would've qualified, just had the chance to play extra time - the referee made this decision".

"At this stage of the competition, such a mistake shouldn't happen".

"It was a 10th of a penalty", Buffon told Premium Sport.

Cristiano Ronaldo had another opinion about the penalty; he said that there was no doubt that Oliver took the right decision.

Following the result, Buffon launched a scathing attack on Oliver's decision. They were normal, it was the last minute.

"I don't understand why they are protesting", he said in quotes published by Marca. "If they didn't make the foul, Lucas would score the goal". I'm not saying it wasn't a penalty, I am saying it was a dubious situation. It means not knowing where you are, what teams are playing.

Despite the 3-1 defeat on the night, the Portugal forward is grateful to be through to the last four of the competition they won in Cardiff previous year.
