Fayemi: I'm out to rescue Ekiti from current misrule

The Deputy Minority Whip of the Senate and the former Deputy Governor of Ekiti State Senator Biodun Olujimi, has declared her interest to vie for the governorship seat of Ekiti State under the umbrella of the People Democratic Party (PDP).

He said: "One Sgt. Saghir Koli had revealed how the election was manipulated by the Nigerian Army in connivance with two former ministers: Musiliu Obanikoro and Abdul-Jelil Adesiyan in favour of Fayose - the then candidate of the PDP".

"My convictions about how much more is possible in Ekiti stem not from any sense of entitlement but from a sense of service, of obligation and from my belief that posterity has positioned us for such a time as this". This time around, we will have a transparent, free and fair election, genuine and authentic election.

"They have been saying we want to use federal might, whether it is bottom power, middle level or top power all I know is power belongs to God and he gives it to whoever he gives".

The APC acting chairman, Kemi Olaleye, said the party would do its best to be transparent in the primary.

The event led to a traffic jam at the ever busy Ado-Ikere-Akure road.

Fayemi had on April 2, during the quarterly meeting of the Ekiti APC leaders at his Isan Ekiti country home, indicated that he would be seeking APC's ticket to return as the state governor.

He said: "There are people who have power to ask for undue advantage, but we are saying it should not be granted to them".

"If we don't do that, we run the risk of damaging our brand (APC). It's time to tighten our belts".

"Those of us who traveled out of Ekiti, we are being insulted, assaulted and mocked on daily basis asking why Ekiti they thought were well read, refined and exposed could make a character like Governor Ayodele Fayose as their governor".

He also lamented that, "It is not the right time to contest for governorship in any state where the entire structure of the party has been deployed against you".

Fayemi said: "When I come before you, it is with profound need for the unfinished business, we need to complete what we started, reclaim our land and restore our land".

Fayemi said Fayose would be brought to justice at the end of his tenure on how he has mismanaged all the funds received from the Federal Government on behalf of the people of the state. Who will the workers hate between a government that did these and one that has not been paying salaries for more than 10 months?

Apart from this, he said workers were sponsored to local and overseas seminars, teachers got Core Subjects Allowance, Rural Teachers Allowance and no worker was sacked. "Even if I ask, I know that I will not be granted".

"That is why it is important for us to be united".

He however assured that whoever emerged from the party's primaries would be supported by other aspirants to ensure victory at the polls.
