Cops in NH nab two after chase, shots fired at authorities

A police chase that began in Haverhill, Mass. Tuesday night - prompted by shots fired at MA police - resulted in a vehicle crash on I-93 in Windham and a warning to residents that two men were on the loose.

Mike Caron of the Windham, N.H., Police Department said Manuel Soto, 20, of Haverhill, identified as the driver of the 2002 Mazda that crossed state lines, was arrested by local and Massachusetts State Police at approximately 10 p.m. when the vehicle crashed on Route 111 in Windham.

Soto is being charged with reckless conduct and being a fugitive from justice.

Chambers was handed over to MA authorities to face charges there. Soto and another suspect led police on a chase to Windham, over 13 miles away, after shots were fired from their vehicle in Haverhill, an Essex County city that straddles the Massachusetts-New Hampshire border.

Prosecutor Nicole Mazur, representing the state in Soto's case, and public defender Sydney Hanson, approached a Rockingham Superior Court judge with an agreement Wednesday afternoon at his arraignment. New Hampshire State Police did not have any information on Chambers' arrest or what charges he will face as of early Wednesday.

No specific charges have been released yet for Chambers.

According to investigators, the auto took off and someone inside shot at a police cruiser.

A gun and two magazines were found in the vehicle.

Police had encouraged residents in the area to stay indoors during the search for the second suspect.
