Competitive Gamer Billy Mitchell Responds To His World Records Being Stripped Off

Over the weekend, Mitchell addressed the ruling in a video posted to YouTube. "Guinness World Records will look to update and find the appropriate holder of these records in the next few days", it said in a statement.

It appears that he was actually playing the games on a Multiple Arcade Machine Emulator (MAME), which is against Twin Galaxy Rules, and a video of the record-breaking game of Donkey Kong shows transitions between levels which are not possible on an original arcade machine. In a new statement, the former King of Kong denied the charges against him, promising that his Donkey Kong scores are genuine and authentic. The more damning implication is that Mitchell-previously credited with being the first to score a flawless game on Pac-Man and the first to crack 1 million points on Donkey Kong-faked his games. It's a decision that certainly wasn't made lightly, as Billy Mitchell is probably the most famous face in retro gaming and has been deeply involved with Twin Galaxies since its founding in the 1980s. This lead to both Twin Galaxies and the Guinness World Records removing all his scores from their books.

"The fact of the matter is, now there is a true professional due diligence being done to investigate things that happened as far as 35 years ago in a professional manner, not in a shock-jock mentality designed to create hits", Mitchell said. He reminds us that he and, presumably, his team will "show that everything was done professionally, according to the rules, according to the scoreboard, and the integrity that was set up". I wish I had it in my hands right now, I wish I could hand it to you. But it's taken a considerable amount of time. The filmed followed Kong player Steve Wiebe's attempt to beat Mitchell's record on "Donkey Kong". Now, Billy Mitchell has announced that he will be revealing evidence to prove his innocence at a future date that will clear his name.
