Xbox One Spring update to bring support AMD FreeSync monitors, more

Microsoft has revealed several new software improvements for the Xbox One S and Xbox One X, primarily focusing on how games are displayed on different types of monitors and TVs. The bulletin covered quite a bit of news regarding updates for the Xbox One system, pre-installed software, and about new games on the way. Microsoft demonstrated this during its Inside Xbox Stream yesterday.

In this regard, some 2018 TV with the QLED technologies that Samsung has announced during the CES 2018 will also support the VRR (variable refresh rate), which may be particularly interesting for console players. A news post on this announcement published by Forbes answers the question you might have if you have an older Xbox One - what about me? Also announced by both Microsoft and AMD was the addition of FreeSync (Gen 1) for the Xbox One.

FreeSync removes screen tearing by dynamically changing the refresh rate of the display to match the frames per second outputted by a GPU.

The implementation that is rolling out is FreeSync 2.

More specifically, a FreeSync display which is compatible with FreeSync over the HDMI output. It requires a compatible display, and presumably will arrive to all Xbox One S and Xbox One X gamers with the Spring Update that is now in the works.

Many modern TVs have a low-latency "game mode" which turns off any special processing of image and motion that the TV does for movies or other programs.

Other upcoming features, some of which we already reported on, include direct sharing of screenshots and game clips to Twitter, the ability to share your controller on Mixer, and Microsoft Edge updates for the console version of the web browser.
