WhatsApp extends message deletion window beyond an hour

The change was first noted by WhatsApp Beta Info who tweeted: "A new WhatsApp for iOS update (2.18.31) is available on AppStore". The Twitter account said, "In order to stop these bad users, WhatsApp has implemented a "Block revoke request" feature". To be more precise, it's being extended to exactly 4,096 seconds, a little over 1 hour 8 minutes.

The "Delete for Everyone" feature was introduced by WhatsApp past year in November which allowed the users to delete a sent message within 420 seconds or 7 minutes.

The latest version of the WhatsApp beta app can be found in the Store on your smartphones.

WhatsApp has increased the deadline for when a user can apply the "Delete for everyone" feature in a group or private message. The website explains that when the user deletes a message for everyone, WhatsApp sends a new message with the same ID of the message that user wants to delete to the recipient (s).

We're still waiting for official confirmation from WhatsApp, but it looks like if you've said something you'd rather not have said, or posted an embarrassing confession in the wrong group that, you're about to get more time to recall it.

Hitting the Delete symbol will remove the message and the feature works for all types of messages, but only if they were sent less than seven minutes ago. In new versions of the app, the messaging service will limit the revoke request to 24 hours, and also check the date of the message along with the ID before applying "Delete for everyone".

If you've sent something by mistake you can now delete it. Tap and hold it you'll pop-up window will appear with quick links to Reply, Forward, Copy and Delete.
