Wa-hoo! Google Maps transforms for 'Mario Day'

Google has rolled out a feature in Maps that will turn any ride into a fun trip as users can now include a Mario Kart on the navigation interface while using the app. "To celebrate our favorite mustachioed plumber-turned-racer on his special day-MAR10 Day-we've collaborated with the team at Nintendo to let Mario accompany you on all of your driving adventures on Google Maps this week".

Announced by Nintendo of America, the feature works once you input a destination and choose your vehicle as a auto. This is not the first quirky update to Google Maps that has been implemented, with figures such as Pac-Man roaming the streets, the Loch Ness becoming a traveling companion and the launch of an 8-bit version of Google Maps for April Fool's Day, also in collaboration with Nintendo.

Meanwhile, the new feature appears to have gone down a treat with the users. Just be on the lookout for blue shells and banana peels.

On March 10, which has been dubbed "Mario Day", Google made a decision to give users the chance to be guided by Super Mario himself. There aren't many details available for Mario Kart Tour at the moment, but this feature does open up some fascinating possibilities regarding how Global Positioning System can be isedto allow mobile Mario Kart players to race on real-world streets or use some other kind of AR features.

Google truly understands fans - Super Mario Bros fans - when they see one. Granted, that's all speculative, but most Nintendo mobile games do change the formula of the original titles somewhat to accommodate mobile features.
