Trump Reportedly Looking To Replace VA Secretary David Shulkin

Shulkin was found in an inspector general's report to have violated ethics rules by using taxpayer money to subsidize his wife's $4,300 flight to Europe previous year and improperly accepting tickets to the Wimbledon tennis tournament in London.

Trump and his senior aides are frustrated with Shulkin because they believe he has undermined the White House on several occasions and is unwilling to work with other members of his agency who were appointed by the Trump administration, a source familiar with the matter tells CNN.

Shulkin at first denied the charges but later accepted responsibility and agreed to reimburse the government.

Embattled Secretary of Veterans Affairs David Shulkin is likely to be the next high ranking administration official to be fired.

An Energy Department spokeswoman, asked about reports Perry is being considered to replace Shulkin, said: "I have no comment at this time".

Trump had lunch with Perry on Monday and gushed about him at an East Room event honoring the World Series-winning Houston Astros. Shulkin is also accused of not being a team player as he supposedly refused to work with Trump appointees in his agency.

Trump did not make a formal offer to Perry when the two men met on Monday, the report said. During the meeting, Trump and Kelly allegedly discussed the latter's possible appointment as the new Veterans Affairs secretary. And all that happened amid an internal push to oust Shulkin by members of the Veterans Affairs Department. His status as the sole Obama holdover in Trump's administration initially did not raise any issues, people familiar with the situation said. Shulkin was the only one among Trump appointees to be unanimously confirmed by the Senate.

Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke also faced criticism after it was revealed that he is spending $139,000 of taxpayers' money to replace the doors in his office.

Trump has talked about firing Shulkin but was still weighing the question Tuesday, the people said.
