The Oscars Plan to Rip Trump Over Stormy

In a new Wall Street Journal report about the Daniels payoff, sources tell the publication that "after Mr. Trump's victory, Mr. Cohen complained to friends that he had yet to be reimbursed for the payment to [Daniels]".

A Wall Street Journal report published Monday blows a wide hole into claims Donald Trump's lawyer, Michael Cohen, paid adult film actress Stormy Daniels, whose real name is Stephanie Clifford, $130,000 out of his own money.

An LLC that Cohen established used First Republic Bank to pay Clifford in order to keep an alleged sexual encounter between her and Trump under wraps; First Republic later reported the payment to the Treasury Department, one unnamed person with knowledge of the matter told the Journal.

He also said he wasn't reimbursed by the Trump campaign or the Trump Organization, but he wouldn't comment on whether Trump himself or anyone else repaid him.

First Republic and the Treasury Department declined to comment.

The White House has denied Trump had an affair with her.

The Journal, citing a source, said that the payment was received October 27 at City National Bank in Los Angeles. Trump's personal lawyer told The New York Times he made the payment "out of his own pocket".

As per the Journal, individuals acquainted with the issue in the report said that Cohen later whined to companions that he had not been repaid for the cash he sent Clifford.

But Daniels detailed her steamy affair with Trump in a 2011 interview with InTouch Magazine. Representatives for Daniels did not respond to emailed questions. He said it wasn't a campaign contribution.

Some members of Congress have started to show interest in Cohen's payment to Daniels as it might have violated campaign-finance laws. The project was abruptly cancelled after concerns were raised about a US presidential candidate making real estate ventures in a foreign adversary's capital.
