The Northeast Is Bracing For Yet Another Nor'easter

The National Weather Service is warning MA residents that Monday night's storm could bring six to twelve inches of heavy snow with the most snowfall in eastern MA and Rhode Island.

"We're anticipating that we'll be seeing through the mid- to late morning and probably into midafternoon snowfall rates of 1 to 3 inches per hour (up to 7.6 cm)", said Bob Thompson, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Taunton, Massachusetts.

"Based on forecasts, we're anticipating that we're going to have some added damage to our system, particularly in areas where snow will be heaviest and winds will be highest", said Eversource spokesman Michael Durand.

Frank said this will affect your commute Tuesday morning, as up to three inches of snow could be falling per hour at that time.

Eversource and United Illuminating just restored most of the outages from Winter Storm Elsa, which hit last week. Roads quickly became impassable by mid-morning due to heavy snow, downed power lines, fallen trees and "white-out conditions". Although, he said they're not expecting power outages as widespread as last week's nor'easter across Mass.

But the Big Apple wasn't pummeled with heavy snow accumulations, after earlier storms brought slush and ice to the region. Only minor coastal flooding is predicted.

Because of the wind, snow and whiteout conditions, officials advised people to stay indoors. Majority lost their service during the storm, but some haven't had power since another destructive nor'easter roared in March 2.

The first in a series of Winter storms starts Tuesday.

This latest storm has the National Weather Service putting Monroe County under a winter weather advisory.

Wednesday's storm caused the roof of a CT building that had been vacant for 20 years to collapse under the weight of the snow.

The storm will intensify and spread northward, enveloping most of the state during the day Tuesday in what forecasters are describing as a slow-moving, powerful nor'easter that will produce wind gusts of 30 to 35 miles per hour. But Secretary of State William Gardner and Attorney General Gordon MacDonald said under state law, town meeting elections must go on.

Accumulating snow could continue into the evening, however, the snow should wind down through the evening. "And because generators burn fuel, they produce harmful exhaust including carbon monoxide, so they should never be run indoors and should be located as far away from the dwelling as possible".
