Shocking 'Punish a Muslim Day' letters in United Kingdom urge physical, arson attacks

A Metropolitan Police spokesman said it was not yet clear whether any criminal allegations relating to the letters had been reported in the capital.

The Metropolitan Police of London and other officials have warned Britons to be vigilant, and counterterrorism officials are investigating.

The messages also feature a dagger with the letters 'MS, ' suggesting a possible link to the "Muslim Slayer", who targeted mosques in both the United Kingdom and U.S. with threats past year.

The disgusting propaganda advertises "Punish a Muslim Day" next month, encouraging torture, acid attacks, arson of mosques and assault. "We have told them to keep calm, and to phone the police if they receive one of these letters".

Authorities in London, United Kingdom, are now investigating what could be described as a hateful attempt to frighten the Muslim community in form of an alarming letter titled "Punish a Muslim".

Furthermore, six reports of anti-Muslim letters have been reported to the West Yorkshire Police. Please report them into us at Tell MAMA or to 101.

He said: "It was not addressed to anyone, just the address and postcode as if it was sent out randomly".

Asst Chief Cons Angela Williams, of West Yorkshire Police, said: "The investigation into these instances is now being co-ordinated by the North East Counter Terrorism Unit (NECTU) and these enquiries are ongoing". We are working with police forces on this malicious campaign.

"It is essential that all letters and envelopes are kept and handled minimally to preserve evidence for the police to investigate".

Meanwhile, Leicestershire Police say they will be investigating and take issues of this nature very seriously. It has a second class stamp on the plain white envelope and the frank mark is Sheffield.

She said, "I would urge our communities to be vigilant but not frightened, " adding, "We are stronger when we stand together as one and will not be divided".

In a statement West Midland Police said asked anyone who had received one to get in contact.

Posters advertising a proposed "Punish a Muslim Day" have been sent to addresses in West Yorkshire.

A Bradford Councillor, who was among the recipients of the letter, said that when he opened it and saw the content he was "horrified".

'My main concern is that it could get into the hands of other disaffected people in Bradford who just need that push to act.

Iman Atta, director of Tell Mama, said: "Those behind the malicious letters are trying to create fear within the Muslim communities and the threatening letter titled "Punish a Muslim Day" may be part of a wider campaign of hate against Muslims".

"Hate crime in any form will not be tolerated and we will work with our communities and alongside our colleagues in the counter-terrorism unit to ensure that those spreading fear and hatred will be brought to justice".
