Philips releases outdoor connected Hue lighting

The new range includes wall mounted luminaires, spot lighting and pillar posts, all offering Hue's impressive range of features and functionality.

Philips on Monday announced its Philips Hue outdoor lineup will launch in the United States and Europe in July.

Philips Hue has just announced the first products to be added to its new outdoor range, allowing you to improve the security and create the ideal ambience in your garden, terrace or balcony. Once connected to a standard Philips Hue hub, the lights can be controlled through the Hue app or a voice assistant. With the Philips Hue app, you can turn your outdoor lights on or off remotely or schedule them to automatically switch on at specific moments in the day. Both models let you choose from 16 million colors. The spotlight Philips Hue Lily costs $270 and comes with three lights, while the Calla is $129 and is created to illuminate pathways - both have access to 16 million different colors.

Security features make even more sense in an outdoor environment too - lighting is a known deterrent against burglaries, with Hue's Home & Away function letting you set up a timed lighting routine to give the impression of your presence even when you're absent from a property. Simply choose a color which suits your mood, or even go one step further and change your lighting to reflect your guest's favorite color palette, dimming to create a more intimate setting as the night draws on. That puts the Lily and Calla at $280/€299 and $130/€140 respectively, while the US-exclusive Hue White lamps will be priced from $50.

Philips Hue products usually just have tiresome model number names but someone over at Hue HQ has got creative with the monikers for the new outdoor line. We'll update with news of localised pricing for the United Kingdom and Australia once they become available. United States only: the PAR38 lamp will retail for Dollars 29.99 for a single pack and double pack for Dollars 49.99.
