People want development, not protests: PM

Addressing the gathering after inaugurating the two day National Legislators Conference at the Central Hall of Parliament today, Mr Modi said, the government has identified 115 such districts which were weaker on various parameters of development. Role of public representatives in development and optimum use of resources will be the major subjects on agenda for high-level discussions.

"There was a time when a hardcore round-the-clock politics involving agitations and struggle would work".

The Prime Minister said that though he can not ask them to leave hardcore politics, but changes in society will make them do so.

The Prime Minister said the traditional concept of social justice has been in the context of the condition of society but there is another aspect of it.

Union Ministers, MPs and MLAs from across the country attended the conference organised by the Lok Sabha Speaker.

The National Legislators Conference aims to work as a platform to allow lawmakers to learn from each other's success stories. "Time has changed. Whether you are in power or in the Opposition, what matters is whether if you come to people's help", he said.

# "The word "backward" must not be used for any district - we need to make an atmosphere of "forward" in the country".

He called for posting young IAS officers as district magistrates.

He said that within a state one district surges ahead of the other despite having similar resource allocation. Several senior ministers and leaders of several parties were also present. Since there was an element of negativity in usage of the term "backward districts", he said such districts had been identified as "aspirational districts".

Rest of the 115 districts are hit by left-wing extremism, PM Modi said. We need to work in a Mission Mode and bring a positive change.
